Markus Pirol Stockhausen (born May 2, 1957) is a German trumpeter and composer. He is the son of composer Karlheinz Stockhausen. At age four he appeared as "child at play" in his father's theatre piece Originals. He received his first piano lessons at age 6, and at age 12 he began to play the trumpet. He was born in Cologne and attended the music secondary school in Cologne.

His jazz débuts took place in 1974 with the group Key at the Newcomer Jazz Festival in Frankfurt. In 1981 he won the prize at the German Music Competition (Deutscher Musikwettbewerb). He was awarded the WDR Jazz Prize for Best Improviser.

As a composer he has, in close collaboration with his brother Simon, written several film and theatre scores and created two open-air spectacles for the Philharmonic Hall in Cologne.

His main interest as a trumpeter is improvised and contemporary music. He loves to create and improvise a new kind of devotional, intuitive music, which transcends all musical styles. In the contemporary field he works together with the organist Margareta Hürholz, the pianist Fabrizio Ottaviucci and in the duo Moving Sounds with clarinetist Tara Bouman, with whom he lives and works since the year 2000.
