Jonathan Kreisberg finally in Riga!

On October 17, as part of his European tour, American jazz guitarist Jonathan Kreisberg will perform in Riga – he will also host a master’s workshop to students and fans. The performance will take place in Riga’s newest event venue – Concert Hall “Riga” at the Latvian Academy of Sciences.

American guitarist Jonathan Kreisberg with his continual turnover has been a powerful presence in contemporary jazz, swing and improvisation music scene since 1990’s. His guitar lyricism is compared to the legendary guitarist Pat Methenys’ style of play.

Born in New York City, guitarist and composer Jonathan Kreisberg has fond memories of a childhood steeped in music – his father owned a great record collection that Jonathan already begun listening to in his early childhood. Jonathan started playing guitar at the age of ten after moving to Miami with his family. At 16 he was admitted to the New World School of the Arts, where his jazz studies took center stage. Intensely dedicated to the instrument, he was featured in Guitar Player and DownBeat while still in his teens. He won a scholarship to the University of Miami, where he held the guitar chair in the acclaimed Concert Jazz Band, touring Brazil and performing with Joe Henderson, Michael Brecker, and Red Rodney and different jazz and rock music projects.

Since returning to New York City in late 1990ties, Jonathan has worked in the bands of many jazz greats including Lee Konitz, Joe Locke, Dr. Lonnie Smith, Joel Frahm, Greg Tardy, Lenny White, Roy Nathanson, Donald Edwards, Jane Monheit, Ari Hoenig, and Yosvany Terry. He has also led groups of various instrumentations featuring artists such as Bill Stewart, Larry Grenadier, and Scott Wendholt. His acoustic jazz guitar skills and traditions, as well as lyricism has been compared to the legendary jazz guitarist Pat Metheny. He has released five albums of which the newest - The South of Everywhere – held its place in the JazzWeek jazz album top for 15 weeks.

In Riga Jonathan will perform with his quartet - Will Vinson on the saxophone, Rick Rosato on base and Colin Stranahan on drums – as well asi s to hold a master’s workshop for guitarists and fans.

"....offer incontestable jazz content. Kreisberg uses electronic effects in an uncluttered, kaleidoscopic manner. Kreisberg is capable of orchestral chords as well as stinging rock riffs and bucolic melodies." - Owen Cordle-The News and Observer
