“Riga Jazz Stage 2014” finalists announced!


Contest "Riga Jazz Stage 2014" judges have evaluated the materials sent in by contestants and have selected those, who will perform at the contest final that will take place from 3-5 April, at cinema “Splendid Palace”, in Riga.
 
 
Altogether, 43 young jazz performers applied to take part in the contest.
 
For finals in the “Vocal” category, the judges have selected:
Susanna Aleksandra Veldi /Estonia/, Ajda Stina Turek /Slovenia/, Agata Kubiak /Poland/, Alina Rostotskaya /Russia/, Natalie Dietz /Australia/, Malene Kjaergaard Lund /Denmark/, Tamir Grinberg /Israel/, Maria Schafer /USA/, Loren Battley /USA/, Vytayte Pupšyte /Lithuania/, Egle Petrosiute /Lithuania/, Hilda Sibeck /Sweden/, Isabella Lundgren /Sweden/, Jekaterina Šarigina /Latvia/, Kristīne Prauliņa /Latvia/, Rūta Dūduma /Latvia/, Charlotta Kerbs /Finland/, Kadi Vija /Finland/, Miriam Ast /Germany/, Lydia Schiller /Germany/.
 
For the finals in the “Saxophone” category, the judges have selected:
Nadim Teimoori /Great Britain/, Max Zenger /Finland/, Batuhan Salliel /Turkey/, Ori Jacobson /Israel/, Daniel Vargas /Hungary/, Toms Rudzinskis /Latvia/, Dāvis Jurka /Latvia/.
 
 
A vocalist and a saxophone player from Turkey and Armenia have been selected also and will be announced later on.
 
Magnus Palmquist, the Artistic Director of the “Stockholm Jazz Festival”, says that that materials sent in by contestants are very good. He adds that contest “Riga Jazz Stage” is assessed highly not only in the Baltic States and Scandinavia, but elsewhere as well.
 
Musician and owner of “606 Club” in London Steve Rubie says that after listening to the breadth of material and impressive standard displayed by the multi-National entrants to the competition it is clear that these are some of the best young performers of their generation. He is also impressed by the International panel of judges - it is easy to see why the Riga Jazz Stage has become so prestigious and he is very much looking forward to hearing these fine young musicians perform.
 
The international jazz artist contest “Riga Jazz Stage 2014” will take place in Riga from 3-5 April; the contest will be judged in two categories – “Vocal” and “Saxophone”.
 
 
 
“Riga Jazz Stage 2014” is a “Riga 2014” event and falls under the thematic division “Amber Vein”.
