Both foreign stars and local artists will perform at the festival Rīgas Ritmi 2021. Here’s a quick conversation with Spanish new flamenco and jazz saxophonist and singer Antonio Lizana who will perform at the festival on July 3 at 9 PM in the VEF Culture Palace.
What makes the festival Rīgas Ritmi 2021 special?
As far as I know, Riga is a place with a lot of charm and an audience with a deep knowledge about music. The rest, we will discover there! It will be our first time in the city!
What to expect from your performance at the festival?
I strive to connect with people from the beginning of my concerts and allow them to feel our music as if it was part of their own tradition.
How important does live music and improvisation seem today?
Music has the ability to heal profoundly and remove stuck energies which in this time all of us are carrying. Improvisation connects us with the present moment, with our creative being and allows us to be completely free in a society that often has too many limits.
Who would be your dream artist who could perform at the Rīgas Ritmi Festival and why?
I would love to see Jacob Collier at the Rīgas Ritmi festival. I know he does amazing live concerts, but still I have not been able to see one myself.
What are your plans for the near future?
I have two albums that will be released in the coming months. One is a duo with the amazing Brazilian musician Munir Hossn and the other is a quartet with the grand master Chano Dominguez, Marc Miralta and Manel Fortia. I’m also currently touring with my own band and composing music for my next album.
A wish to the visitors of the festival and to the lovers of quality live music in general!
Music has the power to heal and heighten our emotions and to show us who we really are. I hope you feel renovated and completly inspired after attending the Rīgas Ritmi festival! Thank you for supporting live music!!!
