The Rigas Ritmi Festival 2019 will be held for the 19th time, from July 2nd till July 6th. It will offer a colorful program with concerts, workshops and jam session nights. The concerts will take place at the Riga Congress Hall, Origo Summer Stage, “OlainFarm Jazz Nights” at the club “Kaļķu Vārti”, open-air leisure venue "Egle”, VEF Jazz Club.

 

“This year, Rigas Ritmi Festival is celebrating 100 years since the jazz music came to Europe. In 1919, artists from New Orleans - Original Dixieland Jazz Band, Sissle & Blake Duo, and Southern Syncopated Orchestra - performed for the first time in Europe, starting the jazz music-winning march in Europe. To mark this event, we have invited artists from New Orleans – Jon Cleary and the new and wonderful talent Jamison Ross. The artist will give concerts and workshops, so we can feel the aura reigning in the place where the jazz music was born” – says Māris Briežkalns, Riga Ritmi Festival artistic director.

 

The main events will take place at the Riga Congress Hall. As the first, the three-continent musicians Freedoms Trio will perform on July 3rd. Musicians from Norway, Brazil, and Mozambique are united in an unusual musical union. In the second part of the evening, Jon Cleary - the prestigious Grammy prize holder from New Orleans, USA. "Ninth World Wonder" – it is how the singer, pianist, and composer is called by Bonnie Rait.

 

On July 4th, for the first time in the Baltics, the amazing talent Jamison Ross (USA) will perform. Winning the prestigious T.Monk contest as a drummer, for the Grammy Award has been nominated as a singer, while by critics are praised as a gifted composer. The evening will be closed by the “stellar powerhouse vocal” Judith Hill (USA). She has performed with the pop singer Michael Jackson himself, and her debut album was produced by Prince.

On July 5th, a rare opportunity for seeing and hearing French artist Paloma Pradal will be a rare opportunity for fans of Flamenco music at the Riga Congress Hall and don't miss the pride of Swedish music Jonah Nilsson.

 

Inhabitants of Riga and Riga guests will have a chance to hear the new piano superstar A Bu from China, Jazz Artist Contest Riga Jazz Stage winner Kristina Kovalyova from St. Petersburg, Italian jazz start Federico Milone, as well as Agita Rando Trio, Riga Jazz Quartet, Coco’nuts, Radio Trio and many others.

 

Free concerts will be planned at the open-air leisure venue "Egle”, Origo Summer Stage, jazz club “Trompete”.
