Rigas Ritmi Festival 2015 presents – on July 4 concert by French-Dominican vocalist Cyrille Aimée.
Cyrille Aimée is an unstoppable and undeniable talent in the modern age of jazz. Internationally renowned and praised for her vocal – she is a finalist in the Thelonious Monk International Voice Competition, winner of Sarah Vaughan International Jazz Vocal Competition and first prize and the special public prize winner in the Montreux Jazz Festival Voice Competition.
Her culturally rich background has supplied her with the driving force of Dominican rhythm and the incredible swing of the French Gypsies. As a curious child in Samois-sur-Seine in France she would sneak out of her room to wander into the nearby gypsy encampments filled with the attendants of the annual Django Reinhardt Festival which takes place in France since 1968. Cyrille fell in love with gypsy music and their way of life – it encouraged her to begin a journey with travelling and singing on the street-corners through Europe years later.
Being on one of her musical journeys Cyrille found herself at the Montreaux Jazz Festival where she entered the vocal competition and won both the first and public prize which provided the financing of her first album. Later she entered the prestigious Thelonious Monk Vocal Competition of 2010, performing in front of a jury of Kurt Elling, Dianne Reeves, Dee Dee Bridgewater and was chosen as one of the finalists.
Cyrilles’ discography and musical history is an impressive for any musician. At the young age she has already released several solo CDs which are critically acclaimed all over the world. Currently Cyrille lives in Brooklyn and regularly performs with legends of the East Coast jazz scene and in duo with Brazilian guitarist Diego Figueiredo.
At Rigas Ritmi Festival Cyrille will perform together with quintet – guitarists Adrien Moignard and Michael Valeanu, bassist Sam Anning and percussionist Rajiv Jayaweera.
